Discover the Dominican Republic through its delicious food on a full-day adventure with a local guide. Explore the sensational Dominican countryside and discover its culinary gems before enjoying a seafood lunch at a traditional restaurant overlooking the ocean. This will be a tasty, fun-filled day you’ll never forget!
We’ll start our food-filled day with energising tropical fruit from a local vendor with the biggest smile in town! The fruit will depend on what’s in season but prepare to be amazed by its exotic flavours and colours. As we eat, your guide will tell you about the typical Dominican fruit breakfast that locals love.
From here, we’ll head over to a delightful community project that produces organic cocoa products, supporting the female workers that are employed there. Here you’ll learn about cocoa farming and about the processes that go into making fine organic chocolate, which you will, of course, get to try! You will be equally amazed by the delicious fruit wines they make here too and we thoroughly recommend trying the two together; chocolate and wine is an excellent pairing after all! There are plenty of products here to buy too, all at great prices. They can make wonderful souvenirs or gifts for friends and loved ones.
We’ll continue on to stop at a traditional street food stop that is close to the hearts of many Dominicans: the chicharronera. It’s located in a very rustic place with plenty of atmosphere and here you will sample pork crackling, dried salty pork meat and our Dominican sausage, known as longaniza accompanied by casabe (otherwise known as kassava bread) and a cooling local beer.
After that we’ll take you to try some fresh cheese of the region, including a sample of the oldest and most traditional cheese of the country. We will pair queso de hojas (string cheese) with a much adored molasses bonbon treat, a sweet combination of sugar cane molasses and wheat flour. It’s a combo that’s bound to please cheese fans!
Our food tour will then take us to a popular town that’s well-known for its illustrious seafood restaurants that prepare the fish in the typical Dominican style. We will visit our favourite restaurant and taste a variety of lip-smacking seafood dishes, all of which feature the secret seasoning that Dominican locals love!
After a delicious lunch, we’ll make our way back to Puerto Plata, ending up in the bustling Malecon area, where you can enjoy some much needed relaxation time on the beautiful beach or you could choose to continue your adventure and explore the area. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for tips on what else to see, do and eat during your stay.
Note that the food samples may vary from tour to tour depending on what is available that day

We went to three beautiful waterfalls and ate a delicious Dominican lunch at a cool country restaurant with great scenery. Jose took great pictures and sent them to us which was a huge bonus. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about Dominican culture and scenery. I definitely recommend Jose and would book again for a different tour next time. read less

It was outstanding, literally, and Jose was exceptional. I (we) tend to avoid larger groups because my (our) preference is to delve into the nature of living there. Jose's in-depth knowledge of the socio-economic, education, laws, history, religions and spirituality were second to none in my experience. There was nothing he could not answer with intelligence and a full depth of factual comprehension. Every place we stopped was described in full and sensitive detail. He also came to my rescue. My airline had lost my luggage and advised me that it would arrive overnight to the hotel. We were scheduled to leave the next day on a cruise. I also lost my shaving kit with much-needed prescriptions. I was assured that my bag would be waiting for me but fortunately, Jose agreed to drive us to the airport. He lead us not to the baggage claim area but to the main control centre for baggage for my airline. I would never have found it on my own. He spoke at length with the right employee who dispatched someone it find it for me because it wasn't where it was supposed to be. I may have boarded the cruise without my luggage if it weren't for Jose. He also took me to a pharmacy and managed to get me replacement prescriptions before boarding in time. This man goes well beyond the call of duty for his clients. He is affable, trustworthy, intelligent, extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to be with. I wish he were available at every country we visited. I feel blessed that we were able to book him. read less

A blend of both the historical elements of the city as well as the natural elements found at the National Park. The Los Tres Ojos park was simply breathtaking and our tour guide (Rainer) brought us to see another area of the caves where a 4th lake is. He even discussed the films that have used footage from this area including the original Jurassic Park. It was amazing how some of the lakes seemed to glow a bright teal when the sunlight hit them. Rainer's extensive knowledge of the historical buildings and areas of the city was also excellent. He described the city and his country with such pride and passion. It was exciting to hear about the history from someone who so clearly loves to share it with others. I cannot believe the price of this tour considering how much you are able to see and experience. My only word of warning, when you are leaving the Los Tres Ojos, there are many vendors set up who will instantly harass you and try to get you to buy things. The prices are ridiculous and they are very aggressive. I ended up buying a couple of things just to satisfy them and leave but when my friend politely declined (at least 20 times), the second she turned around, I saw them sneer at her and start speaking very "rudely" about her. They assumed we couldn't understand and continued to say some pretty awful things until our group left. Just be prepared for that. (Not the fault of Rainer or the tour). Again, if you are looking for a way to see a large amount of landmarks and take in the beauty of the city at a very small price, do yourself a favor and book this tour! read less

Jose Uribe proudly showed us his city with excellent stories connected to the sights. Our experience at Lago Los Tres Oros probably was my favorite stop, even getting a chance to pull the underground boat across water to explore another section in the cavern. If you decide to visit Santo Domingo before or after a cruise, please consider contacting Jose for a city tour...you won't be disappointed! read less
